Tada! Wir haben eine Agentur gegründet. Die Open it Agentur will Open Source voranbringen: Wir helfen Unternehmen, Städten und Projekten das Thema für sich zu entdecken, Open Source Strategien zu entwickeln und umzusetzen. Darüber hinaus bin ich gespannt, was uns mit der Agentur alles einfallen wird!

Was ist Open Source? DE

Open Source ist eine neue Entwicklung, ein Trend am Anfang des 21. Jahrhunderts. Die Möglichkeiten der digitalen Medien und vor allem des Internets werden dabei umfassend genutzt: Open Source steht für neue Wege für Kommunikation und Zusammenarbeit; vielfältige Informationen werden offen geteilt und damit neue Potentiale und Möglichkeiten für Innovation, Vertrieb, Kollaboration, Effizienz- und Effektivitätssteigerung aktiviert.

Der Siegeszug von Open Source hat sich zuerst bei Free & später Open Source Software gezeigt – Software ist der natürlichste Verbreitungsinhalt des Internets. Open Source hat sich hier schnell als das in den allermeisten Bereichen überlegene Entwicklunsmodell herausgestellt. Heute bestehen wesentliche Säulen der Internetarchitektur aus Open Source Software, Open Source Software findet sich in den Softwareportfolios fast aller großen Unternehmen.

Gegenwärtig greift der Open Source Trend mehr und mehr in andere Bereiche über. Open Source Hardware und Open Design sind zwei wichtige Schlagworte, wenn man darüber spricht, Open Source Strategien für physische Produkte anzuwenden.

Die Open Source Hardware Definition der der Open Source Hardware Association beginnt so:

„Open Source Hardware ist Hardware, deren Bauweise öffentlich gemacht ist, so dass sie jede und jeder studieren, modifizieren, weiterverbreiten, zur Fabrikation nutzen kann und all dies falls gewünscht auch gewerblich.“

“Open source hardware is hardware whose design is made publicly available so that anyone can study, modify, distribute, make, and sell the design or hardware based on that design. The hardware’s source … more”

Die Definition ist sehr strikt und muss bestimmt nicht in jedem Einzelfall vollständig befolgt werden, aber sie macht deutlich, worin die Kernpraxis von Open Source Hardware und Open Design besteht: Es geht um das offene Teilen von Informationen mit dem Ziel, anderen Möglichkeiten und Freiheiten zu geben. Damit einher können verschiedene Formen von direkter und indirekter Zusammenarbeit gehen, die Unternehmen und Projekte für den eigenen wirtschaftlichen Erfolg und die eigene Entwicklung nutzen können.

Möglichkeiten/Vorteile, die ich als Unternehmung oder Projekt mit Open Source gewinnen kann, sind:

Geringere Innovationskosten: Open Innovation erzeugt oftmals schneller und billiger und zugleich nachhaltigere sowie überraschendere Lösungen

Stabile Ökosysteme: Geringere Kosten für b2b Kollaboration, neue Möglichkeiten z.B. für Stoffkreisläufe, Integration und Standardisierung

Einsparung von Rechtskosten: Weniger Ausgaben für Anwälte, Patente, Geheimnissicherung

Bessere Produkte: langlebiger weil leichter zu reparieren, preiswerter z.B. durch Open Innovation oder Kosteneinsparungen, mehr Features durch offene Erweiterbarkeit durch andere und mehr Umnutzungsmöglichkeiten

Ethischer Bonus für die Marke: „open“ ist ein positiv besetzter Begriff, „das neue Bio oder Fairtrade“ gilt als transparent, fair, innovativ, nachhaltig

Einsparungen bei Support & Marketing: Kostenintensives Marketing oder Support kann teils von der Community und Drittanbietern übernommen werden; Kommunikation in Foren, sozialen Netzwerken usw.

Bessere Mitarbeiter: Offene Unternehmen haben es nachweislich einfacher, hochqualifizierte und motivierte Mitarbeiter zu finden und anzuwerben.

Im Kern bedeutet Open Source Rationalisierung. Bereits aktive Geschäftsfelder können damit besser, schneller und kostensparender bespielt werden. Open Source kann aber auch die Erschließung gänzlich neuer Tätigkeitsfelder und Arbeitsweisen bedeuten. Unternehmen, deren Produkte und Produktion für Open Source geeignet sind, können neu und anders mit ihrem Umfeld zusammenarbeiten, das Umfeld und sich selbst dabei positiv entwickeln. Und die Anwendungsbereiche für Open Source nehmen stetig zu; mehr und mehr Branchen entdecken die Möglichkeiten.

Open Source is a young and ever-growing movement in the 21st century. Open Source means new methods for communication and collaboration. This process enables unique opportunities and new forms of direct and indirect collaboration that can be used by companies to grow their business and enhance their standing with the community.

Potential advantages a company or project could gain through Open Source strategies:

Lower cost for research & development: open innovation is very often faster, cheaper and produces a broader range of solutions than traditional closed R&D.

Stable ecosystems: reduced costs for b2b collaboration, new possibilities e.g. for product lifecycle management, integration with other products/systems, open standards etc.

Lower legal expenses: less reliance on lawyers, patents, NDAs, maintaining trade secrets
